Grand Marnier Mojito Martini

Grand Marnier Mojito martini

The Grand Marnier Mojito Martini is a special cocktail and a favorite of mine. I call it a martini because this beverage was originally served to me at our favorite spot in Mexico as a martini. As you know, martinis can be a bit strong so I modified this beverage to be a bit more drinkable if you know what I mean. It’s citrusy, not too sweet, refreshing goodness in a glass.

My husband and I used to go to Cabo San Lucas Mexico quite regularly during whale watching season. It’s a short flight from the Dallas area so you can be on the beach, cocktail in hand in less than 5 hours!

We spent days on the beach just watching the whales swim by. Sounds heavily right?

On one trip in particular a mama whale came close to shore, just off the tips of our tanning toes. She was swimming in circles and was there a good long time. Soon it became clear, that there were 2 whales, she had given birth while several other whales waited in much deeper waters. An unforgettable experience for sure!

Grand Marnier Mojitos

While I can’t recapture the whale watching on a Friday evening, I can bring a little beach with a perfect cocktail, shaken not stirred, and you can too!

Grand Mariner Mojito Martini

½ ounce of fresh-squeezed lime juice

1-2 ounces of fresh-squeezed orange juice

6 mint leaves

2 ounces rum

½ ounce Grand Mariner

½ ounce simple syrup

Garnish

Sprig mint

Lime wedges

Place all ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake vigorously.  Strain liquid into a cold glass or glass with ice.  Garnish the drink with a mint sprig and lime wedge and serve

Try it and tell me what you think! Also, I’d love to hear whale sighting stories below!

  1. My favorite whale watching story was on Maui. We were out on a boat and a whale came up so close people were able to reach out and touch it. Pretty sure they weren’t supposed to but how could they resist?!
