Gifts from the Kitchen- Date Loaf Recipe

Every year I look forward to my favorite cooking class, Gifts from the Kitchen.  I begin planning next year the minute I wrap this year. I simply can’t wait to inspire you with the latest flavors and packaging ideas for gifts given from your heart and home.

As I prepare for this 16th annual Gifts from the Kitchen class, tomorrow, I thought I’d do a throwback to one of the favorite recipes offered last year, Date Loaf.  It’s a simple loaf cake packed with sweet, dense goodness, that you’re sure to LOVE!

Gifts from the Kitchen- Yummy Date Loaf Recipe

Date Nut Loaf

2 cups chopped dates

¼ cup butter, melted

1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon baking powder

¾ teaspoon salt

¾ cup brown sugar

1 cup strong brewed black tea

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 tablespoon calvados

1 ¾ cup flour

1 cup chopped walnuts

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.  Grease an 8-inch loaf pan well.  Combine dates, sugar, butter, salt, baking powder soda and salt with the hot tea and allow to stand until it cools.  Mix well before adding the egg, vanilla and brandy.  Add flour slowly to incorporate and last add the walnuts.  Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 40 minutes.  If loaf is too brown, tent with foil.  Allow to cool completely before slicing to serve.
