What is Bastille Day?

Bastille Day Celebration

What is Bastille Day anyway?

In America, we celebrate our independence on July 4th, and in France, they celebrate Bastille Day in a similar fashion.

On July 14th, 1789, the Bastille, a medieval fortress, used as a state prison, was attacked by an angry mob, freeing the prisoners held there.  This act is seen as a pivotal moment, ultimately leading to the French Revolution. Although in 1789, not many prisoners were held there, the Bastille represented the unjust rule by the French monarchy.

What is Bastille Day?

Today; Bastille Day is celebrated with a military ceremony including a massive parade down the Avenue des Champs Elysée, and a military fly-over. The celebration ends with a huge spectacle of fireworks as a backdrop for the Eifel Tower.

What is Bastille day, picnic

Many of you may have seen my recent story The First French Picnic. Mark and I were reminiscing about that picnic back in May when we shared this dinner in our backyard. It sparked the idea to create Bastille Day Picnic Baskets for pick-up by local followers.

making baskets

I’ve been having a ball creating these pretty baskets that will be stuffed with delicious morsels and I can’t wait to see each recipient when they swing by to pick up a little picnic magic all their own!

What is a Bastille Day Picnic?

There is 1 Bastille Day Picnic left for purchase, the baskets can be picked up anytime between 10:00 am & 6:00 pm on July 14th-16th! If you would like to create a special date night this weekend or want to host a few friends for something different, celebrate along with me!

But act fast, the last basket won’t last long!
