The BEST Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe
It has been many years since I first posted Lorie’s Chocolate Chip Cookies. I noticed recently that this classic recipe is hard to find after the update to my blog. Since we are heading into cooking season, I thought it was time to give this most requested recipe, a fresh face.
Those new to the blog can enjoy it for the first time.
My Chocolate Chip Cookie is an old family recipe, first baked by my grandmama. This was also the recipe that my mother made when I was a child. I remember those long baking sessions before the holidays, baking Chocolate Chip Cookies, peanut butter cookies, magic bars, and of course fudge! What amazing memories!
When my grandmamma and my mother made this recipe, they used shortening instead of butter. This made the cookies very crispy and tall instead of flat. The cookies had amazing flavor but they are even better with butter! The cookies bake up crunchy on the edge and soft in the middle.
The other change I made to the original recipe was to grind the oatmeal before adding it to the dough. This allows the oats to disburse in the dough and offers a terrific depth of flavor.
I’ve been baking these cookies for over 4 decades and they have become a favorite for many families, I hope you’ll give them a try and let me know what you think.
Are they the BEST Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe you’ve ever had? I hope so!!
Chocolate Chip Cookies
1 cup butter
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
¾ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon baking powder
2 cups ground oatmeal (grind old-fashioned oatmeal in a food processor or blender)
3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips preferably Ghirardelli’s
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Using an electric mixer, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add vanilla and eggs one at a time. Mix flour, baking soda, salt, and baking powder in a separate bowl. Add the dry ingredients gradually to the sugar mixture, and mix only until combined. Add the ground oatmeal slowly and mix until fully incorporated. Mix in chocolate chips by hand. Drop a teaspoon-sized amount of dough onto a greased cookie sheet, and bake for 10-12 minutes.
I hope you will bake these for someone you love and enjoy the warm chocolatey goodness for yourself too!
